Sometimes I really like my new IPhone, and sometimes I really hate it. And right now is one of those times where I hate it. Something happened to it, and I have no idea what it did, or what to do so that I can use my phone to schedule a ride for an appointment I have for tomorrow. I have no idea what happened, but all of a sudden, the phone brings up this screen where it says hello in different languages. I have no idea what caused this to happen, or what to do to bring the home screen back again. There does not appear to be anything on this screen to bring me back to the home screen. And when I press the home button at the bottom of the screen, it does absolutely nothing. Is there anything anyone can do to help me fix this problem with my IPhone. Generally I would call my sister to ask her my IPhone questions, but my phone will not even allow me to call anyone. Can someone please help me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
It sounds like your phone did an update and you are at the setup screen. Tap one of the languatges and you should be asked a few questions and once you finish setup all will work well.
this could be caused by an update or your phone randomly resetting for some reason. I am not sure if you have performed a restore in the near past, but that looks like the welcome screen. try waiting until the hello comes across in English and double tap on it, and it should take you to the next screen. hope this helps.
update. Phone doesn't do that but when it updates, this happens. :) double tap on the hello in English. it'll update. :)
Okay, so at least now I know what is happening to my IPhone. However, somehow I managed to turn foice over off and it will not come back on again regardless of what I do. So even if there is a button that I need to click, there is no way I can click it anymore. And even before I managed to turn voice over off, it was not doing anything even when I was clicking on the button that was saying hello in English. So this thing is pretty much useless to me right now. And this is so frustrating.
Have you tried triple clicking the home button? That turns voiceover on and off during setup.
yes, I tried clicking the home button three times to turn voice over back on again. It did not do anything though. But voice over finally came back on after I had the phone plugged into the charger for a while. But I am still stuck on the screen that just says hello in different languages. When I try clicking or double clicking when it says hello in English it does not do anything. I am not quite sure what to do from here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I just did this last night, and do you think I can remember exactly? hah!. I believe there's an area near the bottom you can click on. There's the "hello" section which visually is big and bold, but below it if I recall, there are other words one needs to click on? Which Iphone do you actually have?
Thank you for responding to my question. After searching online, I figured out that a three finger swipe from left to right gets you past this hello screen.
However, I am now in the process of resetting my password to connect to either the ICloud or ITunes. Sorry, I forgot which one it is as it has taken me a while to type in the information correctly to reset my password.
I chose to reset the password via email instead of answering the security questions. However, I noticed that the person who helped me set up my IPhone at the Verizon store typed my name incorrectly, and there is a random capital letter in the middle of my name.
Is there a way for me to be able to correct this so that all the letters past the first letter in my name are lower case instead of having a random letter being upper case? If not, will it be important for me to remember which random letter in my name past the first letter in my name is in upper case instead of lower case? As you can tell, I am new to the IPhone, and so I am not quite sure how much of a difference this will make as I figure out how to do more things with my IPhone.
Could simply have turned the phone off and back on when you had the different languages.
As to the other, just edit your profile in your Apple ID.
Okay, so it looks like I was able to successfully complete the software update on my IPhone. But in order to complete the software update, I needed to create a six digit security code for my device which I am now required to enter whenever I unlock my IPhone.
However, since voice over reads the numbers aloud, I feel like this undermines the purpose of this security code. So how secure will my device actually be if the digits of this security code are read aloud when I unlock my IPhone? Is there another way to secure and unlock my device without having to enter this six digit code every time I unlock my IPhone?
I was not required to do this when someone helped me set up my IPhone at the Verizon store. So I guess I am just a bit confused about it. So any information anyone could provide about this would be greatly appreciated.
I tried turning the phone off and back on a couple of times and it did absolutely nothing. But it looks as though I was able to figure out how to finish the software update process which fixed the problem.
But how do I edit my profile for my Apple ID? When I logged on using my Apple ID to change my password, I did not see any options on how to edit my name. So some directions on how to do this would be nice.
As to the security code, that is a good question.
The only problem that would give you is if someone were standing near enough to hear, or watch you enter the code, then snatched your phone, or later took it from you.
But without the code, you still have the same risk, because if the phone is snatched, or someone you know takes it, or you lose it, the finder just has a nice new phone.
Another benefit of that code is keeping your lost phone from being reused. It keeps prying eyes from just picking your device up and scrolling through your messages and such. It keep hackers from accessing the phone too, because the turning on of the security secures your traffic and such. There’s a word for what I mean, but I can’t think of it now. In public, use a headset.
To turn it off so it doesn’t ask for it go to settings pass code, mine says touch ID and pass code, because I have a 6S, and turn the pass code off,
It will say something like don't ask for the pass code. You'll understand. Your phone might just say security, but you get the idea. Now you'll not have to enter that code, but don't forget it. If you ever have to reset or something, you'll need it possibly. But it will now be off.
You can edit your Apple ID info using either the computer, phone, or tablet.
To edit your Apple ID on the phone.
Go to settings.
Go to iCloud.
Tap on your Apple ID and in the right corner you’ll see an edit. Tap it on.
Now you can change things.
You’ll need your Apple ID security information, but will only need enter your password, because the email associated with it will already be in.
Please please PLEASE! do not disable your security code though. I know it's a pain, but its there to protect you. Depending on your phone though, you can also set up touch ID, which uses your fingerprint to unlock your phone. Works way, way faster. Then you're only required to enter your 6 digit pin when you restart your phone, or you r fingerprint fails.
What phone do you have? I use the finger print and it is faster, I can use it to log in to other apps and make payments such as on
amazon,
pay pal,
bank apps,
the app store,
and many other apps.
This is nice so I don't have to type in my password for every app and take the chance someone might hear if I don't have my headphones. It is also faster to log on.
Yes, the touch ID is on the SE model. I wasn't sure about that, so checked.
That of course solves the problem of people hearing your code. In public, simply use the finger print.
By default, the phone locks the screen when you aren't using it, so I agree, that security is a must leave.
It makes your phone so much trash if lost, stolen, or borrowed.
Laughing.
So, the security will say exactly as mine does when you go to set it.
The only drawback I've noticed with touch ID is if your hands are wet, really sweaty, or you've just put on lotion. You have to dry them, or wait a bit.
Same thing with washing them, or washing dishes, you have to wait for a bit, or use the code.
Wayne, were you talking about the screen curtain? If the screen curtain is on then sighted people will not be able to see the screen on the OP's phone, so it won't so much matter what her phone is speaking aloud.
True. She could use the screen curtain. I didn't think to say so.
She asked only about people hearing her code.
I use that bad girl all the time when I'm out. You never know if the person sitting next to you or standing behind you is watching you have a delicious text sex.
Not that I do, you understand, but knowing you (can)
Laughing.
Thank you all for responding to my posts. I really appreciate all the help and support I have received as I figure out how to do things on my new IPhone. Sometimes it seems like things are straight forward and simple to do while other times I just end up frustrated and confused.
I understand the purpose of the passcode. However, I am still a bit confused as to why I was not required to set this up when I first got my IPhone from the Verizon store. I generally have the privacy curtain on, but the digits are still spoken aloud as you touch them on the screen. So I was just wondering how secure this makes my phone when I am out and about and do not have headphones. But perhaps this is really no big deal as someone would be required to remember the passcode and connect it to my IPhone if someone were to swipe it from me.
Now if only I could understand why Serie keeps telling me why my IPhone is making a face time video call whenever I use Serie to dial a phone number. I know this is only a minor issue, but I find it to be really annoying. I know that it is not making face time video calls, so I really wish it would stop making this announcement when I use Serie to make a phone call. Since I do not have a whole lot on my schedule this week, I was thinking of taking my IPhone to an Apple store to see if they might be able to help me figure out how to disable this announcement. I do not know of anyone else who encounters this issue, and no one else can tell me why I get this announcement when I am not making face time video calls.
But anyway, thank you for all the help you have given me in terms of figuring out my new IPhone. Your help is greatly appreciated.
If you don't want the code, you don't have to have it. Just go under settings, pass codes, and whatever else, and disable it. :)
It's your phone, customize it or do whatever you want. The only reason why I have a code on mine is because I have sneaky siblings who takes advantage of my blindness, and use stuff that they're not suppose too.
The reason Verizon doesn't set up your passwords and such, is they make all phones general.
Your passwords and such are your personal business, and they leave that choice to you.
The person at the Verizon store helped me set up a number of things on my IPhone when I first bought it. So I am just a bit surprised the person did not tell me anything about the passcode or offered to help me set it up at the store. If it is a rather important feature, it would seem to me that the person who sold me my IPhone at the Verizon store would have mentioned it to me. I mean if they can help activate the phone, and set up things like the Apple ID, voicemail, email, contacts, and Hey Serie, it would seem like they could help set up the passcode too. Or at least mention it as one of the key security features of the IPhone.
I agree with you on that.
Sure, they could have helped, and probably should have explained it, but again, it is personal.
You must have the Apple ID however, so that is something they must do.
The Apple ID is what links your phone to Apple's system.
Now, I suppose they could have not done that, but you'd have had to do it to get your phone working at home.
When I first got one, I received it in the mail, so did it myself.
Now when I go pick my new model up, everything important transfers. That is if I have them start it up.
My current phone, I just got in the mail again.
You know, another idea.
What if the person makes a mistake on your security password.
Once the phone locks and you're out of the door, it be hell to fix that.
The Apple ID is easy to correct as you now know.
For that reason, maybe they don't offer to do it.
When you trade in a phone, even they won't accept one that has the security enabled. Find my iPhone and security all have to be disabled.
Okay, I fail to see how this is worth debating anymore. I was just trying to say that it would have been nice for the person to explain the security passcode when I bought the IPhone at the Verizon store. I mean if the person could explain and help me set up Hey Serie, which does not come across to me as an important or necessary feature for the IPhone, then I fail to see why the person could not explain or help me set up the security passcode. I understand it is not a good idea for someone else to create the security passcode. However, I would have appreciated a brief explanation of this security feature along with the steps needed to set it up. Hell, the person at the Verizon store could have helped walk me through the steps and let me type in the security passcode in the store. Instead, I received an explanation and assistance in setting up and using Hey Serie, which is something I do not even use. Since the security passcode is required when updating the IPhone, it would have been nice to receive information about this when I bought the IPhone. The whole point of purchasing the IPhone at the store was so I could get some help in setting it up and learn some basics on how to operate the IPhone. I am no longer interested in debating this issue if people fail to understand me.
Were I understand you, I'm not Verizon, so can't say why they don't cover security.
It was never covered for me when I did go in to pick up a phone once.
I only see how it could be problematic if the reps make mistakes doing it.
The bran new phone becomes so much junk, and they must give the customer another one if it can be proven it was the reps fault.
Prehaps they only explain services that can be reconfigured if mistakes are made.
This is hind sight, but if you'd like to know why they don't, maybe call them and ask.
You have had the same experience I've had, so I suspect Verizon customders receive the same.
I have another phone, and Android on my account, and security was not explained for it as well when it was picked up.
It is however, in the brochure
I have problems where my IPhone freezes, because, you "have," to get the pass code right. If you don't, after so many times, it freezes. My problem, is it doesn't allow me to look for the right number. If Voiceover tells me the number, it automatically registers the number in the IPhone, and I keep having to reset my phone, and, just to turn on the password so it doesn't lock me out.
Frankly, the security code hinders totally blind people. And, if my fingers wouldn't shake, it might not be as much of a problem. But, every time I hit a button, and even not lifting my finger, which is how it's "Supposed to work," it enters the number.
Am I the only one with that problem? Or, should I try replacing my phone?
God Bless,
Sarah
What part of I do not wish to debate this issue anymore do you not understand? I simply stated that I was surprised that the person from Verizon was willing to explain and help set up the Hey Siri feature but not any of the security features such as the passcode. How difficult is it for you to understand this statement?
I am really not looking for any explanations regarding the actions of the Verizon person who helped me at the store. I am just surprised that she would be willing to explain and help me set up a feature that is really not all that important while not saying anything about the security features that are important. It was nothing more than a simple statement regarding my experience with the person from the Verizon store. Why you keep trying to explain her actions is truly beyond me.
As for the last post, I do not see how entering the security passcode is so difficult to do. I usually do not have any problems when entering this code. However, I need to tap the screen after I find the number before my IPhone recognizes the number. If your IPhone recognizes the number as soon as you lift your finger from the phone, perhaps you simply need to change the keyboard input and recognition back to the default setting.
Also, depending on what model IPhone you have, it might also be possible for you to turn on the handwriting feature where you can enter the passcode by writing out the digits in print with your finger on the screen. I read the hand writing feature is something you can put in the Voice Over rotor. However, I have yet to try this feature.
Yes Sarah. You need to change your settings.
Your phone is now set to touch type, you need to change it to tap.
If you do that, you can look until your hearts content.
Crazy Cat. I'm not debating you. Sorry if you feel that way.
It is just speculation on my part.
Hi,
I am glad you were able to resolve your IPhone issue, as most people are extremely helpful around here. Whenever I encounter the aforementioned setup screen displaying varying languages, near the bottom there is a "Slide to setup." option. Instead of sliding my finger, usually I double tap this button. Honestly, thank you for bestowing upon me a new gesture that allows bypassing this screen.
Concerning the fingerprint technology, this is available in the SE, but after perusing the Internet,it seems that Apple decided to use its 1st generation sensor.
For those who have immense difficulties with coordination and or motor skills,it is possible to use devices such as head switches that allow complete control over the device using different interactions, depending on how the head is positioned. The best option is to purchase an unlocked phone and go with a prepaid carrier. You can save quite a bit of money in the end. Of course, there are always limitations, so do your own checking before purchasing a particular plan. Ensure that the coverage is good where you reside. If you have any further questions, I would be glad to answer them.
